41-year old male who injured himself doing bench press exercises. Ultrasound and MRI reveals a tear to the Pectoralis Major.
It is crucial in these cases to quickly determine if the tear is located in the muscle belly, the musculotendinous junction or the tendon itself where it attaches to the proximal humerus. That is what the orthopedic surgeon would like to know in order to decide for surgery or conservative treatment.
In this case the tear was located in the muscle (one of the sternal heads) and the patient was managed conservatively. He actually improved very quickly and went back to manual labour and sports activities.??️♂️
